Guitar … Ragas / classical Indian music … do they fit together?
Yes! After long and detailed discussions with Satish, a guitar was created that is perfectly suited for Ragas. Fretless, with a brass fretboard, a slightly longer scale length, a seventh string, and a cutaway. All of this combined with a quality pickup system makes this guitar ready for all (Indian) occasions.

With 10 strings, there are several ways to extend the range. Usually, a 10-string guitar is equipped with four extra bass strings tuned down in semitones. I also had a client who wanted them tuned in thirds (7th string C, 8th string A, 9th string F, 10th string D). The world-famous guitarist Narciso Yepes also chose a low C for the 7th string. However, he tuned the 8th string slightly higher to an A♯, the 9th string to a G♯, and the 10th string to an F♯.

Quint bass guitars (baritone guitars) were commonly found and quite popular around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. Why these guitars completely disappeared during the turmoil of the two world wars remains a mystery to me. Slowly but surely, they are finding their place in the guitar family once again. I appreciate the unique tonal character of these guitars. The sound is warm, supportive, and can be modulated at any volume. This type of guitar is wonderful to play as a solo instrument and is an absolute enrichment for any ensemble.
For this guitar, Michael decided to use only native woods and to add a seventh string, completing the instrument with a low E string. To enable playing in a big band or alongside accordion and other louder instruments, we installed a pickup.

Matthias Claudius Aigner is an excellent sculptor and painter from the city of Linz. Since I like to explore new paths, I asked him if he would embellish one of my guitars with Aigner-“ART.” So, I built something special and let Matthias surprise me. For inspiration, he asked for a selection of guitar music to get into the right mood. The result speaks for itself.
With a deep B1 as the seventh string, it’s possible to combine a traditional guitar with a baritone guitar.

One effective way to make Baroque lute music more accessible and authentic on the guitar is to add a high a′ string.

The foundation for this guitar was laid in 2012. Joachim Csaikl approached me with the question of whether I would build a harp guitar, a modern contra guitar, or something along those lines. With Willi, who has been studying with Joachim since 2015, the project began to take concrete shape.
At first, Willi caught the “contra guitar virus” – and eventually decided to have me build a modern contra guitar for him.
Joachim has been deeply involved with the playing of contra guitars since 2005, exploring their use in different musical styles and the technical challenges that come with them. His extensive know-how became an important part of the process and flowed directly into the construction of this instrument.
